Esperanto Society of Boston is established.

Created by Polish doctor Ludwig Zamenhof in the 1880s, the invented language with simple grammar and phonetic spelling is an attempt to promote international communication. It is the first Esperanto society in the U.S. The language never gains widespread use but is spoken by an estimated two million people in the world today.
